The Lady Cougars have been a busy bunch! With Holiday practices and a New Year's Lock-in, SMNW hadn't played any games since December 16th. Of course with school back in session that changed fast and the Lady Cougars were more than ready!
First up for SMNW was the Incredible Freshmen and Sophomore teams who swept SM West for the 2nd time this season.
The Freshmen won a gritty tough battle finally overpowering the Lady Vikings 31-18.
The Sophomore Lady Cougars quickly jumped out to an 22-0 lead and never looked back on their way to a convincing 44-19 win. Jessi Sprang lead the scoring with 13 points and Lizzy Stithem added 8.
The JV squad also jumped out to an impressive lead 21-9 and coasted to a 36-19 victory. The Lady Cougars had outstanding balanced team scoring with Freshman Tracy Monahan with 9 points, Freshman Arielle Jackson and Sophomore Mikala Modiri with 8 a piece and Freshman Carrie Mulder had 3 and Sophomores Meghan McCluskey, Mariah Smith and Freshman Tatum Graves each had 2 points and Freshman Brooklyn Wagler added 1.
The Lady Cougar Varsity battled from start to finish against a very physical Lady Viking team and much like the first game it was extremely close from start to finish. But SMNW were fortunate to make a few plays down the stretch to pull out the win, 48-40.
The Shawnee Dispatch's Amazing Pete Logan was there to record all the exciting action! You can read his report by clicking below:
