Lady Cougars Sweep Leavenworth on Senior Night!

The Lady Cougars had another four game sweep Friday night on Lady Cougar Senior Night and Youth Night! Senior Night honored the Lady Cougars outstanding class of seniors:


Players Mary Slattery, Katie Biggers, Jess Johnson, Sarah Schmidt and Managers: Taryn Vogel, Audrey Johnson and CeCe Robinson.


It was a fantastic evening and we will update the Youth Portion of the night very soon!!


The Freshman Girls’ BB team held Leavenworth scoreless until the 4th quarter and cruised to an easy victory and improved to 14-1. 


The sophomore team defeated Leavenworth 47-38 improving their record to 14-3.  Leading scorer was Lindsey Unrein with 20 points.


The JV team jumped out to a commanding 21 to 4 lead and cruised to a 56 to 12 victory.

Sophomore Olivia Sanders scored 12 and Freshman Tatum Graves had 11.  Sophomore Jessi Sprang and Freshman Arielle Jackson had 9 each and Sophomore Mikala Modiri had 8. 


The Lady Cougar Varsity jumped out to a 35-12 halftime lead and finished with a  53-38 victory. 


Senior Katie Biggers led the way with 13 points. Sophomores McKayla Ross and Mia Woodward each had 9 points, Senior Jess Johnson had 7 and Sophomore Amanda Hoelting had 6.

Lady Cougars Defeat #6 Free State, 57-44!

The Lady Cougars went on the road Tuesday night to Lawrence to face off with the very talented and state ranked Free State Firebirds!.

SMNW's own Valentine's Day Birthday girl, Senior Sarah Schmidt scored the first 13 points of the game for the Lady Cougars on her way to a big 18 point 14 rebound game!

Lady Cougars Get Knocked Off By SME!

SM East seems to have the Lady Cougars number this season and they pulled out another two game sweep.


In the Junior Varsity game, it was a close wire to wire affair and the Lancers had a big 4th quarter to overcome a 4 point SMNW lead after 3 to win 39-34.


Freshman Arielle Jackson had 7 points for the Lady Cougars, Freshman Brooklyn Wagler and Sophomores Jessi Sprang and Meghan McCluskey each had 5. Freshmen Carrie Mulder and Tatum Graves chipped in 4 a piece. Freshman Tracy Monahan had 2 and Junior Elissa Ojeda and Sophomore Mikala Modiri each had 1.


The Varsity Lancers also broke open a very close game with a big second half to knock off the Lady Cougars 59-45.

Lady Cougars Sweep Olathe North!

The Lady Cougars had a good night Tuesday sweeping the Olathe North Eagles in the JV and Varsity games.


In the JV game, The Lady Cougars had a balanced scoring attack and jumped out to an 11-4 1st quarter lead. Things tightened up in the second quarter as neither team had much success offensively and battled to a 4 to 4 tie which gave SMNW a 15 to 8 half time lead.


But the 3rd quarter was a different story as the Lady Cougars outscored the Eagles 19 to 7 and coasted to a 49-22 victory.


Freshman Arielle Jackson led all scorers with 9 points, Freshmen Carrie Mulder and Brooklyn Wagler added 7 a piece, Freshman Tracy Monahan and Sophomore Mikala Modiri each had 6 points, Sophomore Meghan McCluskey had 4 and Freshman Tatum Graves had 3 and Sophomore Mia Woodward had 1.

Lady Cougars Hold Off Olathe East 59-57!

The Lady Cougars picked up a two game sweep Tuesday night vs the visiting Olathe East Hawks.


In the Junior Varsity game, SMNW broke open a close game with a big 4th quarter run to defeat Olathe East 53 to 39.


Freshman Arielle Jackson led the way with 13 points, Freshman Tatum Graves had 10 points and Sophomore Meghan McCluskey added 8. The JV is now 9-1.


In the nitecap, The Lady Cougars battled the 6th ranked Olathe East (10-3) down to the wire and pulled out a dramatic 59-57 victory. Sophomore McKayla Ross had 19 points and senior Sarah Schmidt had 15.

The Lady Cougars improved their record to 10-3.

Lady Cougars WIN Truman Tournament!!!!

With amazing senior leadership and stellar play, the Lady Cougars captured their first Truman Tournament Championship Saturday in a number of years!

The Lady Cougars battled their way past Lee's Summit West and Lee's Summit North to reach the championship game vs the host Truman Patriots.

SMNW Rolls Lee's Summit West In Tournament Opener!

It had been a long time since The SMNW Lady Cougars Basketball Team had advanced to the winner's bracket in the Truman Tournament. But that streak came to an end last night in impressive fashion as the Lady Cougars defeated the Lee's Summit West Titans 66-22.

JV Lady Cougars Crush South, Varsity Loses Nailbiter!

There was some exciting basketball at SMNW Friday night. The JV Lady Cougars jumped all over the visiting SM South Raiders outscoring them 25 to 10 in the first quarter on their way to an easy 59 to 34 victory to keep their record at a perfect 8-0.


Freshman Brooklyn Wagler led the way with 14 points, fellow freshman Tatum Graves added 12 and freshman Tracy Monahan and junior Elissa Ojeda chipped in 8 a piece for very balanced Lady Cougar scoring.


The Varsity played an exciting down to the wire game against the Lady Raiders but couldn't quite pull it out in the end losing 58-53.

SMNW Defeats Lawrence 48-21!

The Lady Cougars basketball program sent four teams to Lawrence Monday and Tuesday and came away with four wins!

 

The Freshmen Lady Cougar won a close battle with the Lady Lions 29-26.

 

The Sophomores led from start to finish and defeated Lawrence, 48-18.

 

The JV jumped out to a 38-3 lead and coasted to a 61 to 25 victory. Freshman Carrie Mulder had 13 points for SMNW.

 

The Varsity also picked up a Sunflower League road victory by blowing open a close game and winning 48-21.

Lady Cougars Complete 2nd Four Game Sweep Over SM West!

The Lady Cougars have been a busy bunch! With Holiday practices and a New Year's Lock-in, SMNW hadn't played any games since December 16th. Of course with school back in session that changed fast and the Lady Cougars were more than ready!


First up for SMNW was the Incredible Freshmen and Sophomore teams who swept SM West for the 2nd time this season.


The Freshmen won a gritty tough battle finally overpowering the Lady Vikings 31-18.


The Sophomore Lady Cougars quickly jumped out to an 22-0 lead and never looked back on their way to a convincing 44-19 win. Jessi Sprang lead the scoring with 13 points and Lizzy Stithem added 8.



The JV squad also jumped out to an impressive lead 21-9 and coasted to a 36-19 victory. The Lady Cougars had outstanding balanced team scoring with Freshman Tracy Monahan with 9 points, Freshman Arielle Jackson and Sophomore Mikala Modiri with 8 a piece and Freshman Carrie Mulder had 3 and Sophomores Meghan McCluskey, Mariah Smith and Freshman Tatum Graves each had 2 points and Freshman Brooklyn Wagler added 1.


The Lady Cougar Varsity battled from start to finish against a very physical Lady Viking team and much like the first game it was extremely close from start to finish. But SMNW were fortunate to make a few plays down the stretch to pull out the win, 48-40.

Lady Cougars Bring In The New Year!!

The Lady Cougars Basketball Program celebrated the New Year in style with a party/lock in at Good Shepherd this New Year's Eve.


Over 35 players, parents, coaches and family enjoyed a lot of good food, games, friendship and had an awesome time.


Special Thanks to Rebecca Slattery and Cat Johnson for staying awake all night and making this special event possible! And thanks to all the parents and family that brought all the amazing food and treats for our Incredible Girls!!! A great time was had by all!!!!



Lady Cougars Win 3 of 4 vs SM South!

The Lady Cougars had a very successful Friday and Saturday vs the SM South Raiders winning 3 out of 4 games and losing one by 3 points.


The JV squad broke open a close game in the 3rd quarter winning 36 to 24.


The Freshmen team had another dominating performance Saturday at SMNW, defeating SM South 48 to 13.


The Sophomore Lady Cougars followed suit breaking open their close game in the second half winning 56 to 17. Holding SM South to only 7 second half points.


The Varsity Lady Cougars had a dramatic see-saw battle that saw them storm back from down 13 to have a shot to tie the game at the buzzer but it wasn't meant to be. SMNW lost 55-52 and the Shawnee Dispatch covered all the action! Click below for details!

Lady Cougars Pick Up 3 More Wins at Washington.

The Lady Cougars picked up 3 more convincing wins this week at Washington.

 

The Freshmen squad dominated the Wildcats 60-13 and the JV did the same by the score of 76-9.

Lady Cougars Defeat SM North!

The Lady Cougars Basketball program continued rolling through the early season with their second 4 game sweep! This time vs the SM North Indians.


In the freshmen game, the Lady Cougars led from start to finish on their way to a 50-9 victory. Tremendous team defense by the Freshmen Lady Cougars: Lizzie Box, Arielle Jackson, Shelby Russell, Katie Mahlmeister, Jessica Kirchner, Cali Wing, Riley Winter, Megan Glenn, Paige Umscheid, Gabi Basel, Cheyenne Smith and Tessa Kohler. Box chipped in 14 points, Jackson with 12, Wing with 10 and Basel with 6. Coach Jim Ratzaff's squad is off to a fantastic 2-0 start! Great Job Ladies!!


In sophomore action, Coach Ken Summers has SMNW humming like a well-oiled machine picking up their second win of the season, knocking off SM North 56-15.


All 8 sophomores scored, with Jessi Sprang and Taylor Kangethe 10 each, Bethany Vonada 9, Lindsey Unrein 8, Jessi Eitel and Rachel Hinkle 6 each.  Lizzy Stithem and Jackie Entzminger round out the stellar sophomore squad.


The JV Squad led by Coach Rachel Taege and Erin Barnett improved to 3-0, running past SM North 46-22. Freshman Tracy Monahan led the charge with 14 points, Freshman Carrie Mulder added 10 and Sophomore Mikala Modiri had 8. It was another great defensive performance by the Lady Cougars. Along with Monahan, Mulder and Modiri were Freshmen Brooklyn Wagler and Tatum Graves who had 4 and 3 points a piece respectively and defensive stopper Sydney Thompson and Juniors Elissa Ojeda and Kristina Purinton providing tremendous leadership and the sophomore crew of Meghan McCluskey, Sondra Ibarra, Mariah Smith and Olivia Sanders providing energy and defense for the JV Lady Cougars!

Lady Cougars Knock Off Smithville!

The SMNW Lady Cougar Basketball Varsity and JV teams were in action on Tuesday and were able to sweep the visiting Smithville Warriors.

 

In the JV game, the Lady Cougars jumped out to an early double digit lead and never looked back winning 44 to 32 to stay undefeated.

Lady Cougars Open Season With 4 Game Sweep at SM West!

The Lady Cougars got their season underway with an impressive 4 game sweep at SM West. The Sophomore Cougars got the night off to the right start with a dominating 63-27 win over their West Viking counterparts.

The Lady Cougar Freshmen also had a great opening win on the road, knocking off SM West 46-29.


Both squads will be back in action on Thursday at SMNW against SM North.


In Junior Varsity action, freshman Carrie Mulder helped lead the young Lady Cougars to a 35 to 20 victory over the Vikings. SMNW jumped out to a 17-2 1st quarter lead and never looked back. Mulder had a game hit 12 points, fellow freshmen Tracy Monahan and Tatum Graves chipped in 7 and 5 points respectively. Freshman Brooklyn Wagler, Junior Elissa Ojeda and Sophomore Olivia Sanders all added 3 points a piece.

Slattery Wins Dr. Pepper Ten/HyVee Scholarship!!

Our own Mary Slattery was selected from over 1900 students to receive a $500 Scholarship from KSMO-TV/ Dr Pepper Ten/HyVee! Mary was honored at a SMNW Football Game this Fall. Slattery, a senior Tennis and Basketball Standout plans to continue her education at the University of Kansas. Great Job Mary!!!!



LADY COUGARS AT HOME AT LEADERSHIP LAB!

This summer 34 Lady Cougars and Coaches headed to Liberty, Missouri to the beautiful campus at William Jewell to do a leadership course with the amazing instructors from the Tucker Leadership Lab.

It was a first rate experience and the girls and coaches learned so much about themselves, each other and how to work together!

It was a great day to be a LADY COUGAR!!!!
